BT - Never Gonna Come Back Down 

this is one of those songs so strongly anchored in time that i can’t hear it without remembering us piled into an SUV in vegas, screaming along with m doughty’s often obscure and nonsensical lyrics. his digressions - given BT’s process, it’s likely doughty made most of it up on the spot in the studio, playing around with the beat and incorporating the studio talk into the song (“can you bring it up a little”) and making it feel like we’re at a studio party, dj rap hanging out for no clear reason, and then we all get sucked up into the swirl of the chorus, throwing our hands to the sky and spinning in circles. who would want to come down from that?

we called the SUV “Cherise,” as i recall.
